What is Waxing?
Waxing is a well-known method of removing hair from the body. It is done by applying wax to the treatment area and then quickly pulling it off. This allows the hair follicle to be removed directly from the root.
There are a few different forms of wax that can be used: hard wax and soft wax.
Soft wax is what people often think of when they think of waxing. Warm soft wax is applied to the skin, and then a removal strip is applied and pulled off, taking the unwanted hair with it.
As for hard wax, wax is applied to the treatment area, it’s allowed to set on the skin, and then the wax is pulled directly from the area. No strips are needed.
Waxing can be done on almost all areas of the body including:
- Arms
- Legs
- Face
- Eyebrows
- Bikini line
- Back
- Buttocks
- Chest
Who is a Good Candidate for Waxing?
Most people are good candidates for the waxing procedure. As long as you have unwanted facial or body hair and the hair is long enough to be waxed, you are likely a good candidate.
We don’t recommend waxing for anyone currently taking Accutane or Retin-A, anyone receiving dermal injections, chemical peels, or laser treatment, and those with very sensitive skin. Those undergoing chemotherapy or radiation should also avoid the procedure.

“The Waxing Procedure
Before attending your waxing appointment, you’ll want to be sure your hair is at least ½-inch long and avoid exfoliating the area you’re looking to have treated. On the day of your appointment, you can take over-the-counter pain medication to address any discomfort you expect during the waxing treatment.
Once at your appointment, you’ll want to let your provider know about any pre-existing conditions, moles, or sunburn you’re experiencing.
You may be asked to remove garments of clothing, but it all depends on the area being waxed. We will ask you to make yourself comfortable and your provider will then clean the area and then apply the wax. It will be warm but not hot. For soft wax, strips will also be applied and then torn off to remove the hair. For hard wax, the wax will set and then be removed along with the hair.
If it’s your first time, you will likely have some discomfort, but not as much as you might think.
Once all the hair is removed, a calming cream will be applied to soothe the area. Afterward, you can return to your normal routine.
Aftercare
After your waxing appointment, you may have some redness or irritation, but those will diminish in the next few hours. You’ll want to avoid wearing tight clothing around the treatment area. You can apply some gentle moisture and exfoliation to the area.
As for the results, they typically last for multiple weeks, but it does depend on how fast your hair grows. You’ll want to come in every few weeks to maintain smooth, hairless skin.
