Breast Augmentation

Looking to boost your self-confidence? Breast surgery can be the perfect solution to improving how you feel about yourself and enhancing the shape and size of your breasts. At Dr. Andrews Plastic Surgery our team will create a customized treatment plan suited to your individual needs.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, involves using breast implants to enhance and increase the size of the breasts. The procedure can be used to restore volume to the breasts after weight loss or pregnancy. It can also help address breast asymmetry and give a more rounded shape.

Who is A Good Candidate For Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation can be a perfect solution for a variety of different people, but it may not be right for everyone. Good candidates for the breast augmentation procedure include people:

  • In generally good health
  • With realistic expectations
  • With fully-developed breasts
  • Bothered by the small size of their breasts
  • Struggling with breast asymmetry

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

At Dr. Andrews Plastic Surgery, we perform rapid recovery breast augmentation. This starts with anesthesia being administered to ensure you are completely comfortable during the procedure. But unlike local or general anesthesia you may be familiar with, Dr. Andrews uses a pectoralis block called Exparel. This is a long-lasting anesthetic that blocks the nerves in the breasts, limiting any pain you’ll feel during and after the surgery. It typically lasts 72 hours.

Dr. Andrews uses this type of anesthesia because it can shorten the recovery time and reduce the amount of gas anesthetics used during the procedure as well as opioids you may need during recovery. Both can cause nausea, but Exparel does not. It also makes your first days of recovery much more comfortable.

From there, Dr. Andrews will make an incision in an inconspicuous place along your breasts. He almost exclusively uses inframammary fold incisions which are placed in the crease underneath the breast.

The desired breast implant will then be inserted under the pectoral muscle. Once your breast implants are inserted and in the right position, Dr. Andrews will close the incision, and you will start your recovery journey.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Once your breast augmentation procedure is over, our team will ensure you have everything you need for a safe and effective recovery. Your incisions will be wrapped in gauze, and then the area will be wrapped in bandages, or you will be given a support bra. The bra will minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal.

Since you will have been given the Exparel, you shouldn’t need any pain medication for the first days of your recovery. Dr. Andrews will also give you instructions on the best way to care for your incisions and what to avoid.

You will want to avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, blood-thinning medication, strenuous activities, and lifting anything over five pounds. Dr. Andrews will let you know when you can resume your normal activities and exercise routine. As for work, it’s recommended you take one to two weeks off.

While you may see some results immediately, it can take up to three to four months before you see the full results.
