After pregnancy, your body can change in a variety of ways. You may have weight where you didn’t before, notice breast laxity, or experience excess skin on your belly. That’s where a mommy makeover comes in. You can address all your issues at once and get back your pre-baby body with this effective procedure.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is a combination of cosmetic procedures used to restore the shape and appearance of a woman’s body after pregnancy and breastfeeding. The procedures can address issues with the breasts, abdomen, waist, buttocks, and genitalia.
Some of the surgical procedures that women often include in their mommy makeovers include tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, and labiaplasty.
Who is a Good Candidate For Mommy Makeover?
Since a mommy makeover surgery is a highly individualized procedure, who is a good candidate for it can vary. Some of the qualifications to consider when looking into a mommy makeover include:
- Being in generally good health
- Being at or near your ideal weight
- Having a positive outlook and realistic expectations
- Being done having children
- Being a nonsmoker
- Not having medical conditions that may complicate the healing process
- Looking to improve the shape and appearance of multiple parts of the body
The Mommy Makeover Procedure
No matter what procedures are part of your mommy makeover, it will start with the administration of anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Intravenous sedation or general anesthesia will likely be used.
Once that kicks in, Dr. Andrews will begin to perform the procedures. Your mommy makeover may include:
- Breast augmentation: Breast implants are placed under the pectoral muscle to enhance and enlarge the size of the breasts
- Breast Lift: Skin and fatty tissue will be removed and tightened to lift the breasts to a more youthful position.
- Liposuction: Fat pockets are loosened and suctioned from the body to provide a more contoured appearance
- Tummy tuck: Excess skin and fat are removed while weakened and separated abdominal muscles are strengthened to provide a firmer and toned abdominal area.
- Labiaplasty: After childbirth, the labia can be changed or even torn. During labiaplasty, you can reduce the size of the labia minora
Recovery
Following your mommy makeover surgery, bandages will be applied to your incisions, and if you have breast surgery, a support bra will need to be worn to support the breasts and reduce swelling. A compression garment may also be used to control the swelling in the abdomen, buttocks, or waist area.
Dr. Andrews will also provide detailed instructions on how to care for your surgical sites, what medications to take and when to take them, what to avoid, and when you will need to come back for follow-up appointments.
Because of the swelling, you may not see the final results of the mommy makeover procedure for several months.
