What is the ReStart Shot?
The ReStart Shot is an FDA-approved treatment for weight loss, chronic weight management, and weight-related conditions. It helps many people lose weight and keep it off.
The shot mimics the GLP-1 hormone that is naturally released by the intestines. By mimicking this hormone, the shot works to regulate insulin and blood sugar, slows how quickly the stomach empties, and controls your appetite, allowing you to lose weight more efficiently.
Who is a Good Candidate for the ReStart Shot?
Before getting a prescription for ReStart Shot, it’s important to consider whether you are a good candidate for the medication. Some of the qualifications that make someone an ideal candidate for this injection include:
- Having a body mass index (BMI) of 27 kg/m2 or greater and at least one weight-related condition like high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol
- Having a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater
People who are not good candidates for the ReStart Shot include those with the following:
- History of medullary thyroid cancer
- History of gallbladder disease
- History of pancreatitis
- Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)
The ReStart Shot
The ReStart Shot is a once-weekly injection that is administered into the tissue of the abdomen, back of the arm, or thigh. Dr. Andrews and our team will walk you through the dosing and the injection process. We will prescribe injections for you to perform at home once a week, or you can come into the office for your weekly injection.
If you want to treat yourself at home, don’t worry! It’s an easy shot to administer, and before you leave the office, we will be sure you feel comfortable with it.
The shot comes with only a few possible side effects, including nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea.
We offer two ReStart Programs at Dr. Andrews Plastic Surgery: The Basic Program and the Premiere Program.
Aftercare
There is no recovery or downtime with the ReStart Shot. You can go back to your daily routine immediately. Dr. Andrews or a member of our team may provide some diet and exercise recommendations, but beyond that, you can return to work or home right after your appointment.
