Shockwave therapy is a cutting-edge solution designed to help address various conditions that can negatively impact men’s lives. Particularly, this treatment focuses on erectile dysfunction (ED), Peyronie’s disease, and chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). At Dr. Andrew’s Plastic Surgery, we are thrilled to offer this non-surgical solution to help treat the uncomfortable symptoms associated with these conditions, resulting in an improvement in our patients’ lives.
Introducing Shockwave Therapy
Low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy is an effective option for urological pain therapy and erectile dysfunction. This treatment option is a non-invasive, drug-free alternative to medication and invasive procedures.
This solution can be used to address the following conditions:
Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
Erectile dysfunction is a sexual dysfunction in which a male is unable to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity. It is a common issue, especially for men as they age, and can be caused by a variety of factors, including physical, psychological, and lifestyle factors.
Peyronie’s Disease
Pyeyronie’s disease, also known as induration penis plastica (OPP), is a condition in which fibrous scar tissue develops inside of the penis, causing it to curve during erections. This can cause painful erections and may interfere with sexual function. There are several factors that may contribute to this condition, including injury, genetics, connective tissue disorders, and age.
Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome
Chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a condition characterized by persistent pain in the pelvic region that is not caused by an identifiable medical condition. While it can affect both men and women, it is more common in men. While the exact cause is unknown, it is thought to be connected to pelvic floor dysfunction, nerve inflammation or sensitization, psychological factors, autoimmune or inflammatory responses, or previous trauma to the area.
How Shockwave Therapy Works
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive procedure performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you can return home directly afterward. To begin treatment, a topical numbing gel may be applied to the penis to reduce any mild discomfort. Our specialized shockwave therapy device will then be used to deliver shockwaves to various points along the penis. Patients often report a feeling of tapping or vibrating during this time. Each treatment session typically lasts 15-20 minutes.
Why Choose Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy can be an effective, low-risk tool in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, and chronic pelvic pain syndrome. It works by targeting various underlying mechanisms, depending on the condition.
Erectile Dysfunction (ED): Shockwave therapy focuses on improving blood flow to the penis, making it an effective solution for men with ED caused by blood flow problems.
Peyronie’s Disease: Shockwave therapy helps to improve this condition by breaking down fibrous plaques over time, promoting blood flow to the penis to promote overall healing, stimulating tissue regeneration, and reducing pain and inflammation.
Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS): Shockwave therapy can help to improve symptoms of CPPS by reducing muscle tension, improving blood flow to the area, desensitizing pain nerves, and triggering a healing response to reduce chronic inflammation.

Results, Recovery, and Longevity
Overall, the timeline for when patients can enjoy the results following shockwave therapy depends on the individual’s condition, severity, and response to treatment.
If being treated for ED or Peyronie’s disease, most men can begin to notice an improvement in erection quality after 3-4 weeks. For best results, patients typically undergo a series of treatments over several weeks, after which maximum benefits can be enjoyed 1-3 months after completing treatment.
If being treated for chronic pelvic pain syndrome, patients may notice relief from pelvic pain as early as 1-2 weeks after therapy, with full results seen after 6-8 weeks from the treat of treatment.
Our team will provide you with detailed instructions regarding what to expect following your shockwave therapy treatment, as well as how many treatments are recommended for optimal outcomes.
