QuickLinks
Liposuction has become a very popular cosmetic surgery procedure over the years, and while many think of plastic surgery as something for women, more and more men are getting procedures like liposuction every year to ensure they look and feel their best. At Dr. Andrews Plastic Surgery, we customize body contouring procedures like liposuction to ensure it gives men the exact results they’re looking for.
What is Liposuction For Men?
Men often have different goals for liposuction than women. Instead of seeking a slimmer figure, men are often looking for a leaner body with more muscle definition and a more masculine look. No matter how fit you are, there can still be pockets of fat that just won’t seem to go away.
Liposuction for men can be a quick and effective way to finally get rid of that fat and complete your body transformation. Men often want unwanted stubborn fat deposits removed from their chest, abdomen, flanks or love handles, neck, and jawline. Multiple areas can be treated during each procedure. Liposuction can be performed alone or with other cosmetic procedures like a tummy tuck to simultaneously eliminate loose skin and further enhance male body contours.
Who is a Good Candidate For Liposuction For Men?
While many men are looking to get rid of unwanted fat with liposuction, not all of them are good candidates for the procedure. Some of the qualifications that make someone an ideal candidate for liposuction for men include:
- Men with unwanted fat that hasn’t responded to diet and exercise
- Nonsmokers
- Men with realistic expectations
- Men in generally good health who have no medical conditions that may interfere with surgery
- Adults who are near their ideal weight and have elastic skin
The Liposuction For Men Procedure
The liposuction procedure will begin with the administration of anesthesia to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout the surgery. General anesthesia is used for most procedures, but local anesthesia can be considered for smaller treatment areas.
Dr. Andrews will then make an incision in an inconspicuous place near or in the treatment area. Then, he will insert a thin tube (cannula) into the incision and loosen the fat. The loosened fat cells are then suctioned out with a vacuum. The incision(s) will be closed with sutures, and you’ll be taken to the recovery room. This is an outpatient procedure, meaning patients can return home the same day.
Liposuction Recovery
After the liposuction fat removal procedure, dressings and bandages will be applied to the treatment area, and you’ll be given a compression garment to wear for a few weeks to support the body and minimize the swelling and bruising. Dr. Andrews will also provide you with specific instructions on how to take care of your incisions, activities to avoid, and when to schedule a follow-up appointment. You’ll want to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and blood thinner medication.
You may see some results immediately, but because there will be at least some swelling, the results will be hidden for a while. You likely won’t see the final results for a few months. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle and fitness routine, the fatty tissue should not come back, and you can enjoy more pronounced muscle tone and smooth contours.
