Are you ready for a new and more confident you? Breast augmentation surgery can revitalize and enhance a woman’s self-confidence and well-being. Below, you can learn all about breast augmentation surgery, including when to consider an augmentation, the cost, the procedure process, and recovery time.
What is Breast Augmentation?
During breast augmentation surgery, breast implants are inserted to reshape and enlarge the size of the breasts. The most common types of breast implants used today include silicone implants, which are filled with a silicone gel, and saline implants, which are filled with a saltwater saline solution.
Because breast appearance and size are often tied directly to a woman’s self-esteem and confidence, breast augmentation surgery is unique for every woman. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Andrews has a long list of very satisfied patients who have undergone this surgical procedure with natural-looking results.
Why Should You Consider Breast Augmentation?
The breast augmentation procedure can address many issues women deal with, such as small breasts, asymmetric breasts, and deflated breasts. Every woman who undergoes the procedure is different and has different goals, which is why Dr. Andrews creates a personalized surgical plan for each patient. Many patients also choose to combine their breast augmentation with a breast lift to augment the size of the breasts and lift them to a more youthful position. If you are seriously considering breast augmentation, it is best to discuss it with a qualified professional. They will help you understand the procedure and the expectations.
What Happens During the Breast Augmentation Procedure?
Breast augmentation surgery generally lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. The surgeon will administer local anesthesia to ensure a painless procedure. An incision is made to open the breast pocket (either behind breast tissue or the chest muscles) and insert the implant. Once the breast implant is placed in the breast pocket, it will be properly adjusted before closing. At Dr. Andrew’s Plastic Surgery, we do a nerve block called Exparel for all of our breast augmentation procedures. This post-surgery anesthetic helps with pain management after surgery, and many of our patients take little to no narcotics after the procedure.
Following breast implant surgery, surgical dressings are applied, and a surgical bra will be needed to speed the recovery and healing process. There will be some swelling around the breast and some pain. Over-the-counter medications will usually be enough to address any pain issues.
What is the Recovery Time?
While you will be sore, realistically, you can return to work in a few days. The soreness will subside and you will begin to see good results after a few weeks. As time goes on, you will see even better results. Once you see the new and improved you, your confidence level will skyrocket.
