Fortunately, notable plastic surgery organizations are also heeding the call, providing statistics on the most requested plastic surgical procedures and cosmetic treatments by men. Check out what men were nipping and tucking in 2013.

Plastic Surgery for Men

Last year, men underwent one million of the 11 million plastic surgery procedures that were performed nationwide, making up approximately 9% of all plastic surgery patients last year. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the most requested surgical procedures for men included:

All of these procedures except rhinoplasty saw increases in the number of male patients pursuing them between 2012 and 2013. Rhinoplasty actually had a seven-percent decrease in the number of men seeking the procedure, which totaled more than 57,000 in 2013.

Cosmetic Procedures for Men

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are also gaining some steam for men, as more males are tuning into the advantages of minimally-invasive treatments like anti-aging and facial rejuvenation options. The most common cosmetic procedures performed on men in 2013 were:

  • Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport)
  • Laser hair removal
  • Microdermabrasion (exfoliation, skin rejuvenation)
  • Soft tissue fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse)
  • Chemical peels (skin rejuvenation, anti-aging, exfoliation)

More than 385,000 men had Botox treatments in 2013, which made up six percent of all the Botox procedures done during that year. While that figure marked a slight decrease from Botox injections on male patients in 2012, other procedures like soft tissue fillers and chemical peels saw an increase between 2012 and 2013.

To address the needs of the male patient, many plastic surgeons are striving to make their offices more comfortable and inviting for men. From the décor to the way the staff addresses patients, men are finding that the world of plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures is no longer restricted to the female population. As plastic surgery becomes more acceptable and common for men, physicians expect their percentage of male patients to continue to rise.
