Whether due to gravity, age, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations, breasts can start to sag over time. No matter what the cause is, a breast lift can provide you with a more youthful breast contour to enhance your body and your self-confidence. With the expertise of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Andrews, you can feel confident you will achieve optimal results personalized to your anatomy and aesthetic goals.
What is Breast Lift Surgery?
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is used to raise sagging breasts, remove excess skin, and tighten surrounding tissues, giving you a perkier and more youthful breast. It can also be used to improve reduced breast volume and lost shape after pregnancy and breastfeeding. The procedure can be done on its own or be combined with other cosmetic procedures like breast augmentation for women who want to simultaneously enhance their breast size.
Treatment Options
Breast lifts can be performed with a few different types of incisions, depending on the size of a woman’s breasts and degree of breast sagging. Incision types include:
Cresent Incision
The crescent incision is made around the upper part of the areola. This is an ideal approach for smaller breasts with minimal amounts of sagging.
Vertical or Lollipop Incision
The vertical incision is made around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease. With this incision type, Dr. Andrews can reshape the breast tissue and improve moderate sagging.
Anchor incision
The anchor incision is made around the areola, vertically down the breast crease, and horizontally along the breast crease. This allows for dramatic changes to the breast contour for women with large amounts of excess skin and breast tissue following significant weight loss or breastfeeding.
CRISALIX 3D IMAGING
One of the hardest parts of getting cosmetic surgery is knowing what you’ll look like after the procedure is done. Dr. Andrews can describe the procedure and the results perfectly, but being unable to see it can make some patients apprehensive. With the Crisalix 3D Imaging software, you can actually see a visualization of your “after” pictures.
At Dr. Andrews Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer the Crisalix 3D imaging technology. This game-changing tool allows you to see your “after” before you ever schedule your procedure.

The Breast Lift Surgical Procedure
As with most cosmetic procedures, a breast lift starts with the administration of anesthesia. Intravenous sedation (IV anesthesia) or general anesthesia is used to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Once that has kicked in, Dr. Andrews will make an incision in the breast. The type of incision used depends on the results you’re looking for. After the incision is made, Dr. Andrews will lift and reshape your breast tissue along with the nipple and areola as necessary. Excess breast skin will also be removed to smooth the skin and restore youthful shape. Finally, the incisions are closed, and sutures or surgical tape will be used to bring the skin together. Dr. Andrews will use expert techniques to ensure the incision is as invisible as possible. This is an outpatient procedure, meaning patients can return home the same day.
Recovery
Right after the breast lift procedure, you will be given instructions on how best to take care of your incisions as you begin to heal. We will also give you a compression garment to aid in the healing process. When leaving our office, you will need someone to drive you home.
In the first few days of recovery, you may have some soreness and discomfort, but you’ll be prescribed medication to help with this. You will also have some bruising and swelling. It will take about two weeks for the bruises to disappear and the swelling to go down. To aid in your recovery, try to get as much rest as possible and avoid lifting heavy objects or performing strenuous exercises for six weeks. You’ll also need to sleep on your back until advised otherwise. It will take a few months for you to fully see your new breast contour and improved breast profile.
